What’s a County Treasurer?

The County Treasurer is a job that I hope you never have to think about outside of one time every four years, as you cast your ballot.

But for the times that you do, it is critical to have an office that is well-prepared to help you. The Treasurer is the face of the office, but the heart and soul of it is the staff.

The Boulder County Treasurer’s Office works diligently behind the scenes to make sure our whole county runs smoothly.

The Treasurer’s Office first and foremost must ethically and responsibly handle tax transactions and investments with precision and efficiency.

But that only happens if staff have the tools and support they need — and if residents receive help in compassionate, respectful, and clearly communicated ways.

That is the centerpiece of the Treasurer’s role: ensuring precision, efficiency, a stable and supported workforce, and strong customer service.

The office collects taxes (yes, that property tax bill) — and then ensures that the money we all pay into Boulder County is delivered in a timely manner to the rightful recipients.

The lion’s share of our property taxes goes to school districts, with the county receiving the next largest share and cities, towns, and other taxing districts receiving smaller portions.

You can check this out for yourself here. The Boulder County Treasurer also serves as the county’s Public Trustee and is charged with investing county funds under narrowly constrained parameters.
